AVEVAI is an electric commercial vehicle (ECV) manufacturer from Singapore, founded by Argun Boldkhet in 2018 that aims to provide affordable ECVs for SMEs but in a right-sized collection that fits in today’s busy city.

IONA XS has two battery pack options with a single pack of 11.52 kWh capacity and a double pack of 23 kWh capacity. It offers a single motor configuration only capable of 27 horsepower or 20 kW peak power and with a top speed of 70 km/h.

The company states that the truck will have a range of 100+ km on a single pack and 200+ km on a double pack. It charges from 20% to 80% in just 4 hours with a 3.3 kW of OBC. IONA XS has a payload of up to 500 kg, which is fairly close to many standard-sized pickup trucks. For comparison, a 2023 Ford F-150’s payload capacity starts at 594 kg.

All of the above comes in an incredibly small size. It is only 3700 mm long – a little shorter than the electric Mini and 1480 mm wide. That is twice as short as the Ford F150 Lightning, and 1800 mm shorter than the Rivian R1T. And at 1500 kg it weighs the same as the Toyota Camry. IONA XS offers various configurations as well. Optional cargo configurations include food boxes, flat beds, utility beds with three-sided tailgates, and boxes for secure storage, all pointing to potential commercial applications for the vehicle.

The design choices can be summarized as “affordability first – with enough payload to be amazing, and start experiencing the lowest TCO right after purchase,” said AVEVAI. And by not going overblown with spec, the company focuses on offering the best for less to its customers.

IONA XS uses iron-based prismatic cells with a specific energy density of 110 Wh/kg and can house single or double battery packs under the body frame. It is more energy efficient than the rest of the industry because they use the correct battery size and capacity that suits the daily use of SMEs. And they are not aiming to break any records with the longest driving range like some other EVs with unreasonable big battery packs.

IONA XS is priced at less than $20K. And in the future, AVEVAI will offer 3.5 tons and higher models, at an extremely competitive price. This would be good for people who know they do not need a huge battery, or for businesses with set daily routes.

As for the delivery, IONA XS has already been EU homologated, and is ready for delivery to global customers. AVEVAI has already entered into serious talks for CKD plants in Southeast Asia and is in advanced talks with Indian companies while Tesla is planning to enter the market soon.
